When Ann Dexheimer was 12 years old, she failed a school hearing screening. To compensate for her hearing loss, Ann studied sign language, eventually becoming a certified interpreter. Along the way, she decided that cochlear implants were not for her. However, while working with children with hearing loss, Ann met her first student with a cochlear implant and was “blown away at how successful he was.” Learn how Ann’s opinion of cochlear implants changed when she eventually was implanted and activated in 2008—and never looked back.
