Im so sorry, i came looking to see how deaf people experience music and im guessing it felt better than is sounds if that makes sense, and being a heightened sense you would have probably lost some of its sensitivity when you became more 'enabled' 😢 I hope you find a new passion 😊
for dear Crissy : That IS not correct that you could no even hear anything at 100 to 120 dB air sound. I will explain myself. I am a CI user ( for 5 years in now ) and work at a Medical Technological Research Center in a university in Madrid , Spain. The real reason one looses all ( except very low frequencies, more on this later ) air-conducted sound is because the CI electrodes are retained and inmobilized within the cochlea by using a cartilague solution at the surgery operation. This is to yoeld inmobilisation ol those 22 CI electrodes along the inner cochlear length, which in fact does discriminate frequency along ranges sense ( outmost side senser higher pitch frequencies , up to 4500 Hz , and travelling along to the most profund/bottom side are the lower frequencies in the 200Hz range ). Due to this all the volume between coclea and electrodes gets completely blocked to any movement within, WHICH INCLUDES THE LAST ciliar cells still remaining that before were the sensory cells. But , since not all the cartilage solution gets to the very inner and final bottom length of the coclea , which is where the very low frequencies – 20 to 200 or 250 Hz – ciliar cells are located , it can happen – in my case it does , I can sense them without any hearing aid 😅 – that one can still happen to hear at 80 – 120 dB range in pure air…. so Chrissy , maybe , just maybe , you could hear those 200 Hz tones yet , as I do. But not the remaning 500 to 4500 Hz of normal audio spectrum at the audiogram , which is what I understand it got you so upset at your musical festival. I am Sorry about that , it happens to me as well. I saw on one of your dhirt videos' audiogram before your CI surgery , that it was a completely flat line below the 100 dB range ( mine was a "V" shaped ranging 70 to 95 dB , will did help me to " hear" yet something and used that to develop spoken capacity untill all "V " bottomed into 105 -110 dB ) , so it makes hard for you to have had your brain trained to distinguish the 100 to 250 Hz range before your CI surgery. Neverless , I see you bright , happy and open minded , suscessfully fought for a full life , self reliant , secure enyoing of life. Mind this is important , since it gives you the most important tool for hapoiness , accepting oneself , not wasting life whining about problems , but on the opposite ENYOYNG AND SHARING SMILES and happines with us . Bravo , Chrissy , bien hecho ! Vive feliz 😊😊😊
my dr has been pushing me to get an implant for years now and i just cant bring myself to do it. im sorry you have to deal with this too 🙁 live music has been my whole life this would make me so sad
Yeah, I’m against getting one for myself, and that’s with profound 80% hearing loss in both ears. Possibly loosing what little residual hearing I have left, still not being able to hear 24/7 and going from acoustical to electronic hearing just isn’t for me. You’ve also got to understand most all CI’s only loop to about 450° inside making music sound like crap because they won’t pick up the mid to low tones at all. The only exception to this I believe the Med-El wraps a full 780° in the cochlea.
Can they turn that down a little or something like that cause when I seen the videos for the people getting it for the first time and it was too loud and asked if you know it’s like they were setting it to the right level of sound can’t you go back to the doctor and ask him if there’s something they can dowhy regret being able to hear just because the music is like a lot louder now put cotton in your ear
you need to get it adjusted and say exactly in detail what your hearing youd be doing it for everybody including me and i can hear fine do it for me if not yourself
I’m deaf with cochlear implants and know exactly how you feel like I need to watch lyrics to know what they singing about, don’t forget you are not alone! ❤
Bummer! I hope it was just an adjustment /refinement thing that was eventually sorted. For me it's not a hearing thing but I know grief of "life" interfering with music. All the best in regaining what you lost.
They made big advances to hear again….Cochlear implant can't get the brain to interpret music at all. We're still on the first floor. God created a very unique hearing system that is tough to copy
Im cohlear implants impaired and let me break down to you that even though i hear now clear all the sounds are at the same level like a person singing and another one laughing, maybe another even screaming and you cant understand a word .i go to concerts but i can't understand a word. I wish they would put the lyrics on the stage . Its a struggle, i always wated to talk or write about it and connect with people but im afraid of being seen as taking for granted of what i have.i do have s healthy body let aside the ears but WE DO HAVE EVEN MORE COMPLEX STRUGGLES such as getting a job, making friends, integrate in a group and let's put aside dating. Thankfully im grateful for my person, for the fact that i can listen to music with lyrics and hear as its . But we deserve more awareness from other people.

I wonder if playing music on an instrument would help the process of your brain making these connections

This may sound odd but try psilocybin therapy it helps the brain repair and relearn things dramatically
