Maintaining eye contact is the hardest part for those of us who are introverts. I'll keep practicing! Also, I'm curious how it's perceived if I mouth to myself the English words sometimes while signing. I don't mean to, but sometimes I don't notice I'm doing it.
@Undercoverbooks
I wonder how a visual language like ASL and its reliance on the face might present challenges for people with autism who usually have more trouble interpreting those aspects.
@NousSpeak
I have Autism. I donβt like to be touched.
@ArtMadeUnderground
Ugh eye contact is so dumb imo seriously what's the use?? Other than "showing the person you're paying attention" there's nothing else can we PLEASEE normalize NOT doing eye contact?? It's so uncomfortable too π
@Ekko-wp6vz
Anyone here to practice with?
@maaliga9257
Thatβs really interesting because it is kinda of counter intuitive to tap on the counter because they canβt hear but I noticed deaf people do this a lot. I guess they are looking for it?
@Thesweetdemonisdead
This is so incredibly informative, these are all things that I would have never even thought about as a hearing person who doesn't have experience speaking ASL
@TheForeignersNetwork
My dad just became deaf in his 70's and became very depressed because of it so us kids and my mother are learning ASL so we can all still communicate. It's so much fun to learn and just helpful overall. The hardest part is getting my father to participate. He's very stubborn and in his ways but we really want him to be happy again. I'm also very clumsy but we are trying our best. When we learn new things even for those of us that can hear, we still sign to each other to create habits and just to continue learning. Thank you so much for all your free resources! We actively share your videos in our group text thread so we can all learn the same things at the same time. God bless you and thank you again!!

I find Sign language relies on emotions expressed rather than words used.

@marciacamargo2242
Well that sucks.
I have social anxiety so I donβt like looking at people in the eyes ππ»ββοΈ

The sign language Iβm learning and what Iβm seeing on display here is totally confusing. Itβs seems different. So many variations of ASL
@fortheloveofmoney1752
No way I could look in someoneβs eyes as I started to learn signing 2 months ago π Iβd loose all the meaning

she speaks really well!!

Just a quick question. I decided to learn to fingerspelling and have learned the alphabet and have been practicing receptive fingerspelling. I saw in another video that itβs considered I guess rude or tedious to just fingerspell with deaf people. Should I not bother continuing to learn just the fingerspelling if Iβm not going to also add in many many signs as well? I feel like fingerspelling I can easily keep up with with daily practice. Please let me know if you feel itβs a good idea for me to know at least fingerspelling. I would of course be open to memorizing at least 20 or 30 of the main, conversational signs as well. Thank you for any thoughts or advice!

You forgot to mention stomping the foot.

@Luz-g2z
it seems ghosts are actually politely trying to get attention in asl terms but then they get frustrated and over do it
@theycallmethesoandso
I have been trying to learn asl for years is eye contact really that important i have extreme issues with eye contact and reconizing facial expressions also being aware of my expressions i was just wondering is this just something i will have to just try to overcome
@kyleeyoung-zx8nw
I have difficulty looking at people's eyes who aren't signing. π

What a lovely video πI myself am a deaf female person too and I'm 23 years old.
Usually people don't know I am deaf until they hear me speak or especially on social media or in public if I am out with my wife. My wife (is a hearing person) who is my childhood bestfriend that I've known since the day I was born, has known how to sign language since she was a kid, which made me feel so special. How she gets my attention, if I am not wearing my hearing aids, she goes behind me getting me a hug, I can sense her, by turning off and on the lights or usually texting me cause I do have my phone on vibrate mode.
@Julia-ov6wm
This is so awesome. Would love to see more like this
@CoolOldSchool123
I learn asl but i can't get the conversation because you are signing very fast
@MiLiam-ut9sd
This is hard for me. I am terrible at making eye contact, I tend to be a very paranoid person. How can I fix this?
@savannahhagen6657
Iβm an ASM in a mechanic shop and I have a new technician who is deaf. Learning asl is so fun and Iβm glad I can make it easier for my tech to work with me. My autism makes it worse for my eye contact but I make do π
@OfficialMagicJYT
This dynamic is so so helpful for me. I learn so much from observing conversation with an explanation behind it. I am able to repeat signs after you and your friend as though I am having the conversation. I also pick up new vocabulary. I would love more like this with different topics. This is fantastic.
@dlynmarshall
I'm so GREATFUL for this. Thank you.i also really enjoyed having the sound off with cc and trying to follow along and learn signs I don't know- I'm bran new. I easily picked up conversation bc you all said it so much π fun!
Ps I am lucky to live about an hour from GU in DC. And 2 hours from a school for the blind and deaf. I hope to learn enough to be prepared to chat with ASL in the future.
@sydneybristo22
It's so amazing how the sense of touch improves once you lose another sense. All love and haters can go somewhere. I understand her perfectly
@crimsonnoventa7381
Ngl some of these stress me out beacause i'm autistic so keeping eye contact and having expressive faces is kind of hard sometimes (especially when im tired) but i feel like it could alsow become easier to do if i try hard but alsow stay patient with myself if i practise, ill try my best ^^
@Acorn905
Some of the best things I've learned on you channel are right here.
