Mercy LIFE Valley View: PACE for Deaf Elders
(A program of Mercy Health System, a part of Trinity Health)

Mercy LIFE is a nationally recognized Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). The Valley View facility, near Philadelphia, expands access to quality health care and adult day program services to its residents who are deaf, some of whom are also blind. This center, which was retrofitted to provide dual services—housing and the Mercy LIFE program—is the first PACE program in the United States to provide services to a community specifically comprised of deaf seniors.
Staff at the facility, many of whom are deaf, have been empowered to learn about the deaf community and how they can better communicate with their clients. Hearing staff members are provided access to resources for learning American Sign Language.
