LEAD IN:
Hearing aids in Mexico cost on average $750 (US).
But now thousands of Mexicans, who can’t afford hearing aids, are being helped by the Starkey Foundation.
And the parents of one young boy are delighted their son’s hearing has been improved.
STORYLINE:
The Moreno Family found out about a year ago that their only son, two year old Damian, was losing his hearing.
Damian’s father, Alejandro Moreno, says they discovered Damian’s problem when he didn’t react to sudden noises.
It became a bigger problem when they found out that in Mexico a hearing aid can cost up to $750 USD.
But this is where the local authorities, in partnership with the Starkey Foundation, can help people like the Moreno family.
Damian’s mother, Ariadna Javier, says she was delighted when she heard about the different organisations able to help their son.
Damian’s father says their biggest hope is for Damian to lead a full life.
The Starkey Foundation has given away more than 200,000 hearing aids around the world.
It was founded by William Austin.
