* I love deaf people β₯

I'm not legally deaf, but I struggle along with my hearing-aids. I can usually "hear" what people say, but sometimes I have issues with processing what I hear, and crowds can be overwhelming. Music that I used to enjoy is beginning to sound strange. When they talk, some people sound like they're mumbling; others sound like chirping! Crazy…!
Things I like: People that get my attention before they begin speaking, so that I can watch their lips; for, while I can't lip-read, I can "hear better" when I watch the speakers lips! Eye contact is great! I also like it when people know how to project when they speak, and look at me when they speak.
Things I dislike: People that think that they need to yell or bellow to communicate. People that begin to speak, and then turn to walk away while they're speaking. People that, when communication becomes challenged, say, "Oh, just forget it. Never mind…" People that think I'm pretending that I can't hear them… People that turn off the "Close Caption" on the lunchroom TV at work. No more sounds of nature.
No, I'm not deaf; but one doesn't have to be to really lose out on one of life's more important senses. It's not something that a sane person wishes for. Cut them a little slack. Thanks!

Sorry speak
@AndyClarke-g7h
Sign language should definitely be required because you never know when you might need it legitimately. Btw Ren you are beautiful.
@Invisibleplqnetsmusic
this is really well done… very impressive for amateur filmmaker

Iβm HOH. I wear dual hearing aids. I sign but my wife and kids donβt since I can speak. They have known to face me when they speak or need me to know something.
Sometimes itβs on us to let others know about our situation. Quite a while back I was stopped by the police. I waited for the officer to walk up. I kept both hands on the steering wheel to be seen. They cannot know I donβt hear well by looking at me. When the officer was at my window I told him I am hard of hearing. Loud areas, like a busy highway make it difficult at best to hear or understand. I told him to please face me and yelling doesnβt help. My drivers license has a symbol on the bottom left of an ear with a diagonal line across it. Police here are educated on these symbols. It is quite helpful.

We do not need fines – we paid enough in this life for being deaf. Give us a break and get lost lol
@donia20252

At the start of the video, the woman is ordering coffee by writing. She is deaf and dumb. If she can speak, why not speak?
@Phjghh
3:13 that guyβs tongue is redder than mine after I finish 8 cans of cherry vodka coolers
@conradthefox4157
For the dumb people out there that are watching this video without knowing what Deaf means
Deaf" usually refers to a hearing loss so severe that there is very little or no functional hearing. "Hard of hearing" refers to a hearing loss where there may be enough residual hearing that an auditory device, such as a hearing aid or FM system, provides adequate assistance to process speech

Hi
@mykitchenhacks450
enjoyed this up until the police segment. that part makes no sense, neither of them made any attempt to understand eachother. a policeman also wouldn't just fucking give up cause the driver isn't cooperating, that's when the driver gets arrested.
she could have wrote something down, or tried doing sign language which even if the cop didn't understand, it would have certainly informed him of the situation
even assuming she can't read lips, she'd have to be an idiot to not take out her license, that is just standard procedure when you've been pulled over.

My mom is almost deaf, but not just deaf, she literally does not listen, does not pay attention, does not care. For example today she said oh no you're paranoid. Later, I said see I told you I wasn't paranoid. She said who said who was paranoid. I said you did. She said I said who was paranoid? I said you said I was. Then when I said something else and she change the word to something else, I said never mind, I am leaving. And she brought up the "deaf card". Well played mom, let's just not talk to each other anymore!
@vanessab.6682
I had a Deaf roommate and learned so much about the Deaf community.
@robiny.4395
Why wouldn't you carry a sign in your car that says your deaf
@swolfe9668
Muting the audio really puts into perspective what its like to be deaf.
@GonkDroid0923

@HavanaSyndrome69
This video was incredibly helpful thank you, Ren! I will make appropriate accommodations for my future students who are deaf and hard of hearing! (:
@anthonylopezjr6997
Great video! However, if the police is trying to pull someone over who us deaf they legally have to wait until an interpreter arrives.
@Chaubiz3
Okay, some people in this comment section are trying to ask questions because the genuinely want to know. But so many of these comments are trying to point out inconsistencies (that aren't there) and acuse the makers of this of being careless or incorrect. The alarm clock was vibrating, she could have been receiving a face time or text, she saw the police cars light in the rearview mirror, and some deaf people are mute while others can talk or personally prefer not to. Please think before you type.
